Timor-Leste is Australia’s 82nd largest trading partner, with a total of A$229m worth of goods and services traded in 2016, making up less than 0.1% of Australia’s total trade portfolio. Total merchandise trade (exports + imports) with Timor-Leste totalled A$39m in 2016. The biggest exports include aircraft and accompanying parts as well as motor vehicles.  Imports comprised mostly of coffee.


Australian service exports to Timor-Leste are limited. Tourist arrivals are miniscule, while the number of students studying in Australia numbered 130 in 2016.


Bilateral investment between Timor-Leste and Australia is limited.
