Need

Firm needed finance to provide German mining machining manufacturer Wirtgen Australia with new facilities for the refurbishment of Fortescue Metals Group open mining profiling machines.

Solution

Our bond enabled FIRM to support the Wirtgen project and other mining-related contracts.

We supported commercial construction contractor FIRM Construction with a bond to support the Wirtgen project and other mining-related contracts.

The mining sector accounts for around 40% of FIRM’s work, with government another 40% and other industries, the remaining 20%.

Firm won a contract to provide German mining machining manufacturer Wirtgen Australia with new facilities for the refurbishment of Fortescue Metals Group open mining profiling machines.

The bonding facility from Export Finance Australia not only allowed us to deliver this contract but also to pick up other ongoing projects in the mining sector.

Director, FIRM Construction

The machines are used for Fortescue’s tenements across the Pilbara region that produce iron ore for export.

FIRM’s bank, ANZ, referred the company to us for help. We provided FIRM with a $5 million uncommitted bond to support the Wirtgen project and other mining-related contracts.

Export Finance Australia’s Leela Hanson said, “This is a prime example of how we, in partnership with banks, can help SME companies involved in the supply chain for resource export projects win more business.”
