EFIC helps Australian computer game company unleash its fury on North America and Europe |
4 October 2007 Export Finance and Insurance Corporation (EFIC), Australia’s export credit agency, has provided a $2 million guarantee to assist in the international release of Auran Games Pty Ltd’s latest online computer game, FURY. Three years in the making, FURY is the biggest online computer game ever developed in Australia, and builds on Auran’s global success with titles such as Dark Reign and Trainz. FURY is a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG), meaning it is capable of being accessed simultaneously by thousands of players who can duel one another in real time role-playing. The EFIC guarantee enables Auran, which is spending over $14 million on developing FURY, to access additional working capital finance from its bank, NAB. “Thanks to EFIC, we’re able to access the additional funds we need to finalise the commercialisation of FURY, including the installation of customer support and billing systems,” said Auran CEO Tony Hilliam. “The extra working capital will help us penetrate the lucrative US market, as well as Europe.” Gamestop, America’s largest specialty video game store chain, is actively promoting FURY through its stores in the USA. The game will also will be released throughout Europe and Australia. The game software, slated for release on 16 October, can be purchased as a boxed product or digital download, with a monthly subscription fee for ongoing access. “This is the first time EFIC has provided a facility to support the export of an online computer game,” said Peter Field, executive director of EFIC’s business origination team. “Our assistance to Auran represents an exciting development in our support for Australia’s ICT exporters.” The online computer game industry is growing rapidly in step with the global expansion of broadband internet connections.
