EFIC joins Transparency International Australia

Australia’s export credit agency, EFIC, today announced that it has become a member of Transparency International Australia, the local chapter of Transparency International.

Transparency International is a global not-for-profit, non-government organisation leading the fight against corruption. Founded in 1993, its mission is to create change towards a corruption-free world and it is the only international movement exclusively focused on curbing corruption.

Transparency International is a global network, with a presence in around 80 countries. Transparency International Australia was established in 1995 to raise awareness in Australia of international business corruption and lead moves to combat it.

In becoming a member of Transparency International Australia, EFIC joins some of Australia’s largest companies, including BHP Billiton, Westpac and ANZ.

“Joining Transparency International Australia demonstrates EFIC’s commitment to anti-corruption measures in Australia and in the overseas countries in which our clients operate,” said Angus Armour, Managing Director & CEO of EFIC.

“We’re delighted that EFIC has agreed to join us, and look forward to working with them to raise exporters’ awareness about the risk of corruption in the overseas countries they trade with,” said Michael Ahrens, Executive Director of Transparency International Australia.

EFIC’s membership of Transparency International Australia complements its existing anti-corruption obligations under Australian law and as a member of the OECD's Export Credits Group (ECG). ECG members are obliged to observe the OECD Council Recommendation on Bribery and Officially Supported Export Credits on appropriate measures to deter bribery in international business transactions benefiting from official export credit agency support.
