Why you should participate

Today, Australian businesses have the benefit of unprecedented opportunities to expand on to the global stage, however, the recent global credit crisis and fluctuating Australian dollar are posing new risks and challenges whilst doing so.

EFIC's Global Readiness index researches the current drivers, decision-making processes, risks and barriers that exporters and offshore investors encounter in an increasingly globalised and, at times, uncertain business world.

This unique study will provide Australian business with a comprehensive picture of the opportunities and challenges on the path to participating in today's global supply chains.

Key findings from last year

  • The top driver for offshore expansion in 2008 was to 'increase revenues/expand market share'.  Equal second was to 'take control of the supply chain' and 'decrease costs'.
  • Businesses primarily regard offshore expansion as a strategic path to market and revenue growth rather than a defensive ploy to protect what they already have.
  • Barriers to international expansion - respondents said that 'lack of local business and market knowledge' and 'finance' were their biggest concerns when expanding offshore.
  • Finance as a barrier [to international expansion] was even more apparent among respondents who were planning to export for the first time. 43% of these respondents nominated finance as the major barrier to their plans.

With thanks to our Partners

“We are delighted to support the EFIC Global Readiness index, now in its second year.  We look forward to receiving the State and National results in mid-2009.

The findings of this year’s study will help to provide insight into the impact of changes in the global financial market over the past 12 months, which has been an interesting time for exporters.

Australian Information Industry Association, as Australia’s leading information technology and telecommunications organisation, fully endorses this initiative, and encourages our members and other Australian companies to assist EFIC to gather this important data.”
